What Not to Say

So I totally stole this post. Read it if you haven't already. It's not only forcefully honest, it's also pretty funny. I couldn't have written it better myself.

I have an update from the hospital I'll write out tonight as well as my ER stories. Stick with me.

Just caught up from over the weekend. You are so strong. And I pray that this is the help that Taz needs.

A Little Bit of History

In 2007 we adopted our son Taz from foster care. Medical professionals have told me over and over that Taz is "complicated". He was born addicted to drugs. He was also born with a severe cleft lip and palate requiring 2 surgeries before his first birthday and 3 more to date. Taz was 15 months when he came to us. I was his fourth "mom". He had trouble bonding at first but is well attached now after a lot of hard work.

Taz has been diagnosed, at different times by different professionals, with: ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, PDD-NOS (pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified), Sensory Integration Disorder, and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). You can see where we get the term "Alphabet Soup". But he has come a long way since he entered our lives almost 3 years ago, a sad, scared, confused little boy. He is funny and charming; he likes worms, cars, and break-dancing.

Chica is Taz's biological half-sister. Chica was born with even worse drug exposure than her brother but came to us right from the hospital at 5 weeks, subsequently missing all the trauma her brother went through his first year of life. She is healthy and developing normally. She likes cuddling, music, and she loves her brother!

Both kids are Puerto-Rican and bi-racial. They are gorgeous and I get comments all the time about how cute they are!
